Neuropathy Signs and Symptoms in Falls Church
Do you have signs and symptoms of Neuropathy is also known as peripheral neuropathy because of its effect on the body's sensory and motor nerves. It is very common for patients to experience the first symptoms in their extremities (hands, arms, legs and feet). When this occurs it is referred to as Sensorimotor Polyneuropathy.
Signs and Symptoms of Neuropathy in Falls Church VA
- Experiencing tingling sensations in the extremities. This sensation is also described as a pins and needling feeling or prickling feeling.
- Burning pain in the lower limbs. Eventually the burning will move into the arms and hands as the condition progresses.
- Having pains that are sharp and stabbing. Generally these pains are worse in the evening. Like the burning sensation, it will begin in the feet and legs and as the condition processes, the "electric-like" pain will move into the hands and arms.
It is also common for patients to develop muscle weakness and coordination problems. The muscles in the limbs may also become paralyzed. Patients also have increased likelihood of developing foot ulcers and infections in the skin. Peripheral neuropathy can occur when there is nerve damage and develop into dysesthesia, which effects a patients' touch sensation. This often leads to a tingling and/or burning sensation. The skin on the extremities eventually will become so sensitive that the pressure from sheets or towels.
Autonomic Neuropathy
Autonomic neuropathy happens when automatic nerves, which control body functions such as breathing, perspiration and maintaining a heart rate, are affected. When this occurs a patient will experience:
- Low blood pressure leading to dizziness with rising from a seated or lying position
- Accelerated heartbeat
- Nausea and vomiting
- Difficulty swallowing
- Balance and coordination problems
- Digestive issues
- Diarrhea
- Inability to empty bladder completely
- Bowel and bladder incontinence
Mononeuropathy
Patients' also may experience issues in an individual nerve. When this occurs it is known as mononeuropathy. A person will also experience:
- Problems with the eyes
- Issues with focus
- Double vision
- Pain in the eye
Pain in specific areas like:
- Shin
- Chest
- Foot
- Bell's Palsy: a disorder that affects the nerves of the face causing a single side of the face to become weak or paralyzed
- Carpel Tunnel Syndrome: a condition that causes prickling, burning, tingling, pain, numbness in the joints.

This office is very professional, I never had rehab done before, and the first 2-3 weeks I felt brand new. I’ve been powerlifting for 10 years and recently my lower back had a deep pain. I called and the doc and he told me to come in for an evaluation (X-ray) which was only like $47-53. This place is very fair and they really care about your progress. I definitely recommend this place!
I am very happy to have found this place. I have suffered for 5 months from plantar fasciitis. I have spent a lot on medicine, insoles, shoes which have helped me with the momentary pain. I have not been able to work my shifts, I felt depressed, bad and in too much pain, but thanks to Dr. Mike in Nova Spine and Rehab I feel better, the pain is decreasing and the incredible thing is that it is my 3rd day. I had severe pain in my neck due to an old whiplash which causes flair ups once every few years. Michael took X-rays and did his magic and I got back to normal. Now I come in whenever I feel tightness in my neck and he makes adjustments releasing pressure.
Dr. Armellino has been so incredibly helpful. Not only is his staff, professional and kind, but you can tell they really care about you. Additionally, their are a ton of different ways Dr. Mike uses treatments to ensure you get the care that works best for you. When I first started going I was in pain 6 out of 7 days of the week and did not have a lot of mobility. I’m now in pain maybe 1 or 2 days a week, and we’re only halfway through my treatment plan. I have been suffering from a pinched nerve in my back for many years. Dr Mike took an xray and evaluated the situation. His chiropractic plan included pt, cold laser, electro stim and massage gun therapy. I cant believe how effective the cold laser treatment is. I felt immediate relief. Just a fter the first session i felt that the cold laser gave me at least 50% improvement in the pain i had been dealing with. I continue to improve. I definitely recommend trying it.

I love this place! I came to them having a lot of pain up and down my left leg. I had ACL surgery done a couple of years prior. I also had some scar tissue that needed to be broken up. With the help of the office and Dr. Mike, I no longer have pain raidiating up and down my leg. Dr. Mike has also helped break up my scar tissue. I notice a clear difference from a pain standpoint. I am very appreciative of this office and Dr. Mike.
